Many people love nature and hope that their home can blend into nature and become one of nature. And a family of five in Connecticut, USA, invited Cutler Anderson Architects to design a house next to a large pond in a 1.74 hectares of woodland. The goal is, of course, to cause "minimal disturbance" to the surrounding natural environment, but to allow the homeowner to experience nature in their daily lives, so Cutler Anderson Architects built the house around a pond, allowing the homeowner to look at it from different angles. Watch the pond and the birds, fishes, amphibians and insects that live in the surrounding area.

It is very challenging to accommodate a large pond in a house. Therefore, the architect divided the house into three main parts, and then connected these parts with a long walkway to make the structure of the house more flexible. It can be built around the edge of the pond and on the irregular bank of the pond, which looks like A house floating on the water.

Each part has a family space with different functions. The first part starts from the entrance of the house and leads to the living room, dining room and kitchen. The living room is a spacious space with plenty of natural light.

The second and third parts contain three and two bedrooms respectively. Before entering the bedroom, you must pass through a long public corridor, and then pass through a small walkway alone, which increases the privacy of the space. The floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall in the bedroom allows the owner to enjoy the vast scenery of the distant forest and feel the mystery of the Wizard of Oz.

Since the shore of the pond is not flat and has a certain inclination, one of the three parts should be raised above the ground so that the three parts can be kept on the same level.

The exterior of the house is covered by strips of unpolished cypress planks, allowing these woods, like the surrounding natural plants, to weather with the wind and sun over time. The interior space continues the exterior with wood color as the main tone. Douglas fir planks are laid on the ceiling, wall and floor. The reddish hue neutralizes the furniture that mainly adopts light gray tones, adding a sense of warmth to the space. A large amount of floor-to-ceiling glass is used in the direction facing the pond, so that the shadow of the pond enters the home without reservation and becomes the focal point of the interior.

In addition to integrating the pond and the home, the homeowner also asked the architect to use renewable resources such as geothermal and solar energy to provide the energy needed for the house. Therefore, those who truly love nature not only blend in with nature, and are unwilling to destroy all the plants and trees of nature, but also achieve the concept of sustainability.
